We are proudly dog friendly because we believe your dog deserves a luxury seaside holiday too.
At The Boat House, dogs are very much part of the adventure. From long coastal walks and salty sea air to dog-friendly beaches, cafés and cliff-top sunsets, Scarborough is the perfect place to slow down and explore together.
Luxury accommodation that genuinely welcomes dogs can often be surprisingly difficult to find, so when restoring The Boat House we wanted to create somewhere both humans and hounds could properly relax. Every apartment welcomes dogs and is thoughtfully designed for comfortable coastal stays after windswept beach walks and muddy adventures along the Yorkshire coast.
Your four-legged companions will find water bowls, treats and a warm welcome waiting in the apartment, along with recommendations for our favourite dog-friendly cafés, pubs, restaurants and local walks.
For those occasions where you may want to enjoy an evening out, a spa visit or somewhere dogs cannot join, we also work with a trusted local dog sitter who can stay in the apartment to keep your companion happy and relaxed in familiar surroundings. Please contact us for details.

Dog-Friendly Cafés & Pubs
Scarborough is full of welcoming independent cafés, traditional pubs and relaxed coastal spots where dogs are treated as part of the family. Lots know Gatsby our blind little Pomeranian, whether he is in a buggy are trotting along behind, he is always given a huge welcome, not that he likes being fussed, wherever he goes.

For nights out or concerts, do contact us and we would, as dog lovers, be happy when available, to dog sit/walk your beloved furry friend. We get a lot of pleasure out of doing this and delighted to be able to offer where possible this as a complimentary option to you stay.

Are dogs welcome?
Very much so. Well-behaved sea dogs are always welcome aboard at The Boat House.
How many dogs can stay?
Most apartments welcome up to two dogs. If you have more adventurous plans — or larger crew members — simply get in touch before booking.
Is there an additional charge for dogs?
Yes — there is a small additional charge of £10 per dog per stay to help us keep the apartments shipshape for future guests.
Are dogs allowed on furniture?
We kindly ask that dogs stay off beds and soft furnishings, mainly because not every guest sails with four-legged companions.
Can dogs be left alone in the apartment?
For short periods, yes — provided they are calm, comfortable and unlikely to hold mutiny proceedings while you are out exploring.
Do you provide dog sitting?
Yes — we work with a trusted local dog sitter should you wish to enjoy some dog-free time during your stay. Please contact us for details.
Are there good walks nearby?
You are spoilt for choice. Scarborough offers cliff-top walks, beaches, woodland trails and long coastal paths all within easy reach of The Boat House.
Do you provide anything for dogs?
We provide water bowls, treats and dog-friendly touches to help your companion settle in comfortably. Quartermaster and Powder Monkey even feature built-in sleeping spaces tucked beneath the stairs for their own cosy quarters.
Are all beaches dog friendly?
Many nearby beaches welcome dogs year-round, while others have seasonal summer restrictions. We are always happy to recommend the best stretches of sand for sandy paws and sea dips.
What if my dog is nervous or reactive?
We understand every dog is different. We simply ask owners to be mindful of neighbouring guests and shared spaces so everyone can enjoy a peaceful stay.
Can muddy dogs return after walks?
Of course — this is the Yorkshire coast after all. We simply ask that sandy paws and salty coats are rinsed off before settling in for the evening. A hose is available in the car park for post-beach clean ups.
Is The Boat House suitable for large dogs?
Many larger dogs stay very happily with us, though some apartments are on higher floors so it is always worth checking which apartment best suits your crew.
Are local pubs and cafés dog friendly?
Many are — Scarborough is wonderfully welcoming to dogs and there are plenty of nearby places for both humans and hounds to enjoy together.
