A quirky, atmospheric historic fisherman's four-storey coastal cottage full of character just a street back from Sandside on South Bay.
Shipmates Cottage is a historic and beautifully atmospheric property spread across four floors. Full of original charm and coastal personality, it offers a completely different but equally memorable stay experience.

Location: Shipmates is located on a quiet cobbled street, just a step back from Sandside. Spread over four floors with the kitchen in the basement, living on the ground floor, with the bathroom on the top floor.
Due to its layout, steep stairs and multi-level design, it is best suited to guests who enjoy character properties with stairs.
Apartment FAQs
Does this apartment have sea views?
All our apartments at The Boat House enjoy beautiful sea views across Scarboroughās panoramic North Bay coastline as well as up to the Castle. The best views will always be the higher you are in the building but you still have fabulous views from the ground floor living rooms of the maisonettes. Please check the individual apartment gallery for specific images of the views.
Is parking included?
Yes ā complimentary parking is included for guests staying at The Boat House, which is a rare luxury in this part of Scarborough. We have seven bays, one for each apartment, The bays are unallocated so you can park in whichever you wish. Two of these bays have EV chargers as well. Should you be coming in two cars, we provide on street parking tickets for the second vehicle.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes ā dogs are warmly welcomed at The Boat House. Scarborough is wonderfully dog friendly, with beaches, coastal walks and cafĆ©s all nearby.
How many guests can stay?
Our apartments sleep either two or four adults. Shipmates Cottage sleep 4. Infants and small children are welcome in addition, but please bring travel cots and high chairs as these are not provided.
Are the apartments suitable for couples?
Very much so. Many of our apartments are especially popular for romantic coastal escapes, sea-view weekends and slower stays by the coast.
Are there stairs?
The Boat House is a Grade Two Listed building which did not enable us to restructure this easily to include a lift, so apartments on higher floors are accessed via stairs. Shipmates Cottage is arranged over four floors and as this is a Historic Grade Two listed cottage, the stairs are relatively narrow. If you are concerned about mobility please do contact us..

Can we stay for longer breaks?
Absolutely. Our apartments and Shipmates Cottage are well suited to longer coastal stays, with kitchens, comfortable living spaces and everything needed to settle in and relax.
What Amenities do you provide?
All our properties are well supplied with all the basics you need from shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, to washing up liquid, extra virgin olive oil, tea, coffee, sugar, filter coffee, Uht milk sachets, cleaning equipment, candles and coffee table magazines.
Is the location walkable?
The Boat House is perfectly positioned for all there is to do in Scarborough. We are 5 mins from the town centre, with plenty of places to eat and drink and shop for provisions on the door step.
Shipmates cottage is in the heart of the Old Town with everything right on the door step and the beach just 20 metres from your door.
Is Scarborough Open Air Theatre nearby?
Yes ā The Boat House is within walking distance of Scarborough Open Air Theatre, around 8 minutes making it ideal for concert weekends and events. Shipmates Cottage is also ideally located, but recommend you take the bus which drops you off right outside the venue.
Do the apartments have kitchens?
Yes ā all apartments include fully equipped kitchens for relaxed breakfasts, cosy evenings in and longer stays by the sea. We provide a very good range of cooking equipment as well as microwave, so you will be able to enjoy cooking/eating and admiring the view.
Shipmates Cottage has a charming kitchen with a fabulous old fireplace making it very much a hub for chatting and cooking

Can dogs be left in the apartment?
For short periods, yes ā provided they are settled, comfortable and unlikely to disturb neighbouring guests.
Is there an enclosed outdoor space suitable for dogs?
No - our car park opens to the road and our front gardens are not enclosed spaces, so dogs will need to be put on a lead for safety.
Are children welcome?
Families are very welcome, though some apartments are particularly suited to couples and quieter coastal stays. Shipmates Cottage and our larger apartments are often popular with families.
Do you have a washing machine?
All our apartments and Shipmates Cottage has an integrated washer dryer and washing pods are provided for your stay.
